Ishtar Transition House - A Safe Place

Ishtar House is a 12 bed facility in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Langley that provides safe, temporary emergency accomodations for women and their children leaving an abusive relationship. It is a place which is free from the threat of violence. The house is staffed 24 hours and the location of the house is confidential. You will meet other women who have lived through similar circumstances.

The staff provide emotional support and personal counselling. They can put you in touch with agencies and resources offering legal, medical or financial assistance. You will be encouraged to explore your options and will be supported through the process of learning to live without violence.

Children Have Needs Too

Children who are exposed to violence in the home, whether or not they are beaten, are deeply affected. Often boys learn to be abusers and girls learn to accept abuse in their relationships.

It is important to recognize that they may be confused, frightened or even angry about these changes in their lives. Remember, this is the time they need you to listen and reassure them of your love.
